Alaska charges no sales tax on a vehicle purchase.
Alaska has no state sales tax. Roughly 110 of 162 municipalities charge their own, from 1 to 7 percent, and many cap the taxable amount per sale.
Anchorage and Fairbanks charge no sales tax at all. Juneau, Ketchikan and the Kenai Peninsula Borough do. Many boroughs also collect a flat biennial registration tax based on vehicle age.
